Koh Tao, Thailand

I woke up today, released my bowels, took some more bismuth subalicylate, and drank gatorade. I then showered, left my bungalow, paid for another night at the reception desk, and then ate breakfast at a nearby cafe (I had a banana smoothie and an English breakfast meal – consisting of an egg, toast, bacon, sausage, hashbrown, beans, fried mushrooms and tomatoes, and tea). After that meal, I bought some more gatorade and walked back to my bungalow to rest and use the toilet as needed. I spent most of the morning reading from the Book of Psalms before finally pulling out my laptop to type away some journal entries and upload photos I had taken. Otherwise, I have been taking it easy and trying to recover from my bout of “traveler’s diarrhea”, hoping I will be well enough to travel tomorrow and get back to the mainland where I can resume my travels (I’ve been on this island for seven days now – the longest time I have spent anywhere since I began traveling – although, I suppose, being stuck on a tropical paradise is better than being stuck in some crowded, polluted, noisy, smelly, sleazy city).

After spending the majority of the day in the bungalow, I left again to eat dinner. For dinner I had a calabrese pizza (tuna, eggplant, capers) and a banana smoothie; I also brought along my laptop and managed to update the website using the restaurant’s wifi. Then I walked back to my bungalow, relaxed, and read some more. By evening, I felt much better than last night and my trips to the toilet had lessened considerably. Finally, I went to sleep.
